A CANDID NOTE TO THE VIEWER

The photographs and graphic art works in this collection are the result of a curiosity and celebration of the people, places, and the things, both natural and made by human hand, that have made my life richer and brought meaning. Not all of the images are "happy," but they all represent experiences and personalities that have contributed, even when dark by nature or foreboding, elements that were necessary pieces to my development as an artist. I leave you then, to the pages that follow. Any and all comments are gratefully received. It is rewarding to hear that an image has made contact, and from it, a connection is made. Charlie Chaplin, provided me with the creed I attempt to live (and work) by. "Love people," he said. "Use things. More than machines, we need humanity." How often we are inclined to do this in reverse order. In 2011, many new creeds and steps were introduced to me. Without realizing it, I had become imprisoned in a very personal, spiritual, and creative cul-de-sac. By grace, I was guided out, and discovered inner amnesty and a new way of life. I hope that this outlook will be expressed in the current and future work. I learned what it meant to "let go," and to relinquish the controls. My friend Jimmy C. said it the best and repeats it to me every time we talk. "Attitude is gratitude," he says.

some necessary thanks
To everyone on Carter Road, Howie K. for the days that followed "Upper New," my brother Paul who always believed, Quincy A. for showing me the meaning of unconditional love with every wag of his tail (I miss the Quince-mobile so), Peter A. for giving me a new definition of the word "friend," David G. for sharing his art and wisdom, and for coming to Los Angeles in the winter of my discontent, if only for one day, Marc C. for making room for "The Sermon", David and Dee Dee M., who have quietly made so much possible, the two dear hearts on Evart's Lane who have brought much joy to the year, Tammy and Olivia S. who inspired many new ways of seeing the world. It's a less lonely one because of the creative whirlwind that resulted, and that's for sure. I am blessed by all the above, and a great many more, too numerous to include in a few inches of type. Maybe I'll publish a more complete list of "remercies" some day. It would be good karma to express how I feel to those who have made my life so abundant.
