MALLORD WILLIAM'S SUMMER SKY

John Mallord William Turner's paintings have been another significant influence in my
photography. Turner painted skies unlike any other artist, capturing the fluid shifting
of clouds, mist, and light. Photographs can do this as well. This image, a tribute to
Turner, is the rusting reflection of a Dodge Dart hood on a street in Hollywood.

John Mallord William Turner (1775 - 1851) was an English landscape painter. Considered
a controversial figure in his day, he is now regarded as one of the great masters of English
painting. Turner is commonly known as the "painter of light" and his work as the Romantic
preface to impressionism. His depictions of skies and clouds impact my use of light.
