John Carlos by Lee Cantelon, c. 2006
This photo of Olympic athlete, John Carlos, was taken in 2005. The artist, Rigo, was preparing to create a bronze
sculpture of John and Tommy Smith, based on their protest during the 1968 Olympics. My dear friend, Marc Chiat,
was documenting this on video, and I became the photographer for the event. The following images are
from that session, which took place in Glendale, California.
