early morning on the northfield dam, c. 2012
Northeast of Litchfield (CT), a place I often go for early morning walks. During the winter, I began photographing
the valley that drops down towards Thomaston from the ridge above the dam . Mostly, the photographs were
taken not long after sunrise, and with a variety of cameras and lenses for varying effects. The ridge is totally
empty and silent at this time of morning. Wood smoke and low clouds create layers of diffusion, and the
mill towns and highways to the east are hidden from view and silenced by dense curtains of woods.
