Genocide in Rwanda, political upheaval in Romania and Berlin at the end of the cold war, social and economic struggle has been the primary subject of Cantelon's photography. He has documented the lives of Black Panthers, the homeless, war hostages, as well as writers, and musicians. Cantelon returned to the United States in 1994, after more than 23 years living abroad, where he lived in an industrial warehouse in East Los Angeles. His graphic art has received numerous international awards. Most recently, his album design for Rickie Lee Jones' It's Like This was selected as one of the "100 Best Album Covers of All Time." As an author, he is well known for his book on the words of Jesus, The Words, which has been translated and published in numerous languages. Cantelon began work on The Words in the late 1980's, and the book, and message that it contains, has been the impetus behind many projects, most notably, The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard (Feb. 6th, 2007 from New West Records). ![]() Lee now lives in the venerable Villa Carlotta building in Hollywood, where he keeps seven bicycles, and his dog, Quincy (offspring of Daisy the beloved bulldog).
