the sermon on exposition boulevard

These days will forever conjure fond memories. On this particular Sunday afternoon,
Peter and I had just returned from MacArthur Park where we were recording city sounds
onto minidisk. We would listen to some of these sounds, read portions from the book,
and then work out melodic ideas that were distilled from these impressions. The melodies
for Where I Like it Best, Lamp of the Body, Nobody Knows My Name, It Hurts, Comin' Into
Town on a Donkey, Seventh Day,
and Falling Up, all began during these sessions.
